Varieties of nonassociative, non commutative algebras given by operadic identities are studied. This varieties are given a product, called the cosmash product, defined as the kernel of a certain map. This cosmash product is related to commutator theory. In general, this cosmash product is not associative; it is in the case of the variety of associative and commuative algebras, where it is the usual tensor product. It is proved here that the only case of operadic variety of algebras such that the cosmash product is the one of commutative and associative algebras. Complements on non operadic cases are also given.
