Almost-crystallographic groups as quotients of Artin braid groups (Q1727704): Difference between revisions

Let \((\Gamma_k(P_n))_{k\ge 1}\) be the lower central series of the Artin pure braid group \(P_n\). In [J. Algebra 474, 393--423 (2017; Zbl 1367.20034)], the authors analysed the group \(B_n/\Gamma_2(P_n)\) in some detail, and proved notably that it is a crystallographic group. Using different techniques, \textit{I. Marin} [Geom. Dedicata 182, 233--247 (2016; Zbl 1353.20020)] generalised their results to generalised braid groups associated to arbitrary complex reflection groups. The authors continue their study of quotients of the Artin braid group \(B_n\) by elements of \((\Gamma_k(P_n))_{k\ge 1}\) and show for all \(n, k \ge 3\), the quotient \(B_n/\Gamma_k(P_n)\) is an almost-crystallographic group. Then, they investigate more thoroughly the group \(B_n/\Gamma_3(P_n)\). In particular, the authors exhibit a presentation for the almost-crystallographic group \(B_n/\Gamma_3(P_n)\) and obtain some \(4\)-dimensional almost-Bieberbach subgroups of \(B_3/\Gamma_3(P_3)\).
