The authors consider the one-dimensional quasilinear Euler system with degenerate characteristics for isentropic Chaplygin gas and describe formation and propagation of singularities. Formation of cusp-type singularities is studied in detail. The delta-type solution is introduced and a few examples are constructed: in a delta-type solution the density becomes infinite in the blowup point. The behaviour of solution near the blowup point is described.
