The author considers a reaction-diffusion system for three species s, c, p on a finite interval with no-flux boundary conditions for c, p at the endpoints and Robin boundary conditions for s. Biologically, s is the substrate, c the carrier and p the bound carrier. The biological background is discussed carefully and in great detail. One of the main results of the paper is a description of the unique stationary solution for small values of the diffusion coefficient of s. This is achieved by a singular perturbation method. Results of numerical simulations at the end of the paper illustrate interesting patterns in the behaviour of the solution.
