Let \(R\) be a prime ring with center \(Z(R)\), noncentral Lie ideal \(L\), and nonzero derivation \(d\). For a fixed positive integer \(n\) let \(F(x)=(d(x^2))^n-(d(x))^{2n}\). The authors prove that if \(F(u)=0\) for all \(u\in L\) then \(\text{char}(R)=2\) and \(R\) satisfies the standard identity \(s_4\). When the assumption is only that \(F(u)\in Z(R)\) for all \(u\in L\) then the conclusion is that \(R\) satisfies \(s_4\). The final theorem assumes that \(R\) is a noncommutative Banach algebra, that \(d\) is continuous, and that for all \(u\in [R,R]\), \(F(u)\in\text{rad}(R)\) and proves that \(d(R)\subseteq\text{rad}(R)\).
