The finitistic dimension conjecture asserts that the finitistic dimension, i.e. the supremum of the projective dimensions of all finite dimensional modules over any Artin algebra, is finite. In [\textit{C.C. Xi}, J. Pure Appl. Algebra 193, No. 1--3, 287--305 (2004, Zbl 1067.16016)], the second author of the paper under review showed that this conjecture is equivalent to showing that for each extension of algebras \(B\subseteq A\) such that \(\text{rad}(B)\) is a left ideal in \(A\), the finiteness of the finitistic dimension of \(A\) implies the finiteness of the finitistic dimension of \(B\). In the paper under review, the authors provide several different criteria for such an implication to hold. These criteria are related to representation-finiteness of certain subcategories of the respective module categories. For example, they prove that if \(I\subseteq B\) is an ideal such that \(\Omega_B^s(B/I-\text{mod})\) is representation-finite for some \(s\geq 0\), \(A_B\) has a finite resolution by Gorenstein projectives and \(IA\text{ rad}(B)\subseteq B\), then the conclusion holds. | |||
