Let \(K\) be an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic \(p\) and let \(C\) be a smooth, projective curve of genus \(g \geq 2\) over \(K\). The result of the article under review is a necessary and sufficient condition for a vector bundle \(\mathcal{V}\) on \(C^{(p)}\) (the target of the relative Frobenius morphism \(F:C \rightarrow C^{(p)}\)) to be the pushforward under \(F\) of a stable vector bundle on \(C\), namely that the instability of \(F^*\mathcal{V}\) (a measure for how far \(F^*\mathcal{V}\) is from being stable) is equal to \((p-1)(2g-2)\). \newline The arguments employed are adaptions of those of [\textit{V. B. Mehta} and \textit{C. Pauly}, Bull. Soc. Math. Fr. 135, No. 1, 105--117 (2007; Zbl 1201.14021)], where a particular case of this result was proven, and an application of results of [\textit{X. Sun}, Invent. Math. 173, No. 2, 427--447 (2008; Zbl 1195.14060)].
