The authors consider the second-order Hamiltonian system \[ u''(t)+A(t)u(t)+\nabla H(t,u(t))=0, \] \(t\in\mathbb R, u(t)\in\mathbb R^N\), where \(A(\cdot)\) is continuous, \(T\)-periodic, symmetric, with \(0\notin \sigma (-d^2/dt^2-A(t))\), and the potential \(H(t,x)\) is superquadratic, continuous, \(T\)-periodic in \(t\) and continuously differentiable in \(x\). The existence of a ground state, \(T\)-periodic solution is established. The additional technical assumptions are sligtly more general than those in the authors' earlier paper [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 379, No. 2, 842--851 (2011; Zbl 1218.37079)]. The approach is variational and similar as before. The basic tool is a generalized weak linking theorem due to \textit{M. Schechter} and \textit{W. M. Zou} [ESAIM, Control Optim. Calc. Var. 9, 601--619 (2003; Zbl 1173.35482)].
