In 1985, \textit{M. Gromov} introduced the concept of ``pseudo-holomorphic curves'' [Invent. Math. 82, 307--347 (1985; Zbl 0592.53025)], a very useful method in symplectic geometry. Some ideas and proofs in Gromov's paper where only sketched. The purpose of this article is to describe original results of Gromov's paper from the point of view of Complex analysis and PDE theory. After introducing some basic material, the authors prove the Gromov-Hartogs Lemma in complex dimension 2, Gromov's non-squeezing Theorem and the Gromov-Hartogs Lemma in higher dimension. Then they use the previous methods in order to prove a result on gluing a complex disc to a compact Lagrangian submanifold of \(\mathbb {C}^n\) with the standard symplectic structure. As a consequence, they also obtain the existence of exotic symplectic structures on \(\mathbb {R}^n\).
