Riesz-type inequalities on general sets (Q402986): Difference between revisions

Let \(\Gamma\) be a closed subset of the unit circle and let \(\omega_{\Gamma}\) be the density of the equilibrium measure of \(\Gamma\). Suppose that \(\zeta\)\, is an inner point of a subarc of \(\Gamma\). It is proved that if \(P_n\) is a polynomial of degree at most \(n\), then \[ |P'_n(\zeta)| \leq \frac{n}{2}\left(1 + 2\pi\omega_{\Gamma}(\zeta)\right)\|P_n\|_{\Gamma}, \tag{1} \] and this is sharp at every \(\zeta\). For the special case when \(\Gamma = \{e^{i\theta} \, |\;\theta\in [-\omega, \omega]\}\) with \(0 < \omega \leq \pi\), inequality (1) was proved in [\textit{B. Nagy} and \textit{V. Totik}, Constr. Approx. 37, No. 2, 223--232 (2013; Zbl 1267.42001)].
