A group \(G\) is called metahamiltonian if its non-abelian subgroups are normal, and the study of such groups was initiated by \textit{G. M. Romalis} and \textit{N. F. Sesekin} [Mat. Zap., Sverdl. 5, No. 3, 101-106 (1966; Zbl 0351.20020)]. \textit{H. Smith} [Topics in infinite groups. Rome: Aracne. 297-308 (2001; Zbl 1017.20017); ibid. 309-326 (2001; Zbl 1017.20018)] began the study of locally (soluble-by-finite) groups whose non-nilpotent subgroups are subnormal. Such groups are soluble in general and nilpotent when torsion-free. Furthermore locally finite groups whose non-nilpotent subgroups are subnormal contain a normal subgroup of finite index, all of whose subgroups are subnormal. In the very interesting paper under review the authors obtain the detailed structure of locally finite groups whose non-abelian subgroups are subnormal. The main theorem is very detailed but is too long to state here. In particular however, periodic locally nilpotent groups all of whose non-abelian subgroups are subnormal have the property that every subgroup is subnormal. Moreover in the groups \(G\) under consideration, if \(G\) is not locally nilpotent then there is exactly one non-abelian Sylow subgroup. More precise details are available in the paper.
