The definition of a state MV-algebra was given by \textit{T. Flaminio} and \textit{F. Montagna} [Int. J. Approx. Reasoning 50, No. 1, 138--152 (2009; Zbl 1185.06007)] as an MV-algebra with an internal state as a unary operation. \textit{A. Di Nola} and the second author [Math. Slovaca 59, No. 5, 517--534 (2009; Zbl 1212.06028); Ann. Pure Appl. Logic 161, No. 2, 161--173 (2009; Zbl 1186.06007); erratum ibid. 161, No. 12, 1605--1607 (2010; Zbl 1221.06013)] gave a stronger version of a state MV-algebra. In the present paper, the authors introduce the notion of a state BL-algebra, presenting different types of state BL-algebras and some open problems.
