The author has proved earlier that when \(G\) is a locally compact groupoid with a Haar system, a continuous real cocycle \(c:G\to \mathbb{R}\) gives rise by pointwise multiplication to a closable derivation on the \(C^*\)-algebra of the groupoid, cf. [A groupoid approach to \(C\)*-algebras. Berlin-Heidelberg-New York: Springer-Verlag (1980; Zbl 0433.46049)]. In the present paper, the construction is generalised by replacing \(\mathbb{R}\) with a \(G\)-real Hilbert bundle. The resulting derivation is closable and agrees with the construction due to \textit{J.-L. Sauvageot} [Lect. Notes Math. 1396, 322--338 (1989; Zbl 0682.46042)]. A technical ingredient is the construction of a functor from the category of \(G\)-Hilbert bundles to the category of the \(C^*(G)\)-correspondences which respects products, in an appropriate sense. This construction appeared earlier in the Ph.D. thesis of P.-Y. Le Gall at the University of Paris VII, 1994.
