Relations among the kernels and images of Steenrod squares acting on right \(\mathcal A\)-modules (Q456829): Difference between revisions

Let \(A\) be the mod-\(2\) Steenrod algebra, \(V \cong (\mathbb{Z}/2\mathbb{Z})^{k},\; k \geq 1\) be an elementary abelian \(2\)-group of rank \(k\) and \(H_{*}V \cong H_{*}(V,\; \mathbb{F}_{2})\) be the mod-\(2\) homology of \(V\). In this paper the author studies the right action of \(A\) on \(H_{*}V\) and looks to the determination of a basis of the space \(\{x \in H_{*}V \mid xSq^{i} = 0, i > 0\}\) (this problem is dual to the ``hit problem''). For this, the author examines the relationship between the intersection of the kernels of \(Sq^{2^{i}}\), \(\bigcap_{i=1}^{p}\ker(Sq^{2^{i}})\), and the intersection of the images of \(Sq^{2^{i+1}-1}\), \(\bigcap_{i=1}^{p}\mathrm{im}(Sq^{2^{i+1}-1})\), \(p \geq 0\).
