The article under review concerns harmonic weak Maass forms which is a space of smooth modular forms. Harmonic weak Maass forms were introduced by \textit{J. H. Bruinier} and \textit{J. Funke} [Duke Math. J. 125, No. 1, 45--90 (2004; Zbl 1088.11030)]. By a geometric approach, the author constructs differentials whose classes are exact in certain de Rham cohomology groups attached to modular forms to obtain harmonic weak Maass forms of integral weight. He also generalizes some results of \textit{J. H. Bruinier} et al. in [Math. Ann. 342, No. 3, 673--693 (2008; Zbl 1246.11098); corrigendum 345, No. 1, 31 (2009)] on Fourier coefficients of harmonic weak Maass forms. Furthermore, he describes a geometric interpretation for the Shimura-Maass lowering operator analogous to the description of the Shimura-Maass raising operator given by Katz. He concludes with generalizing results of \textit{K. Bringmann} et al. in [Math. Ann. 355, No. 3, 1085--1121 (2013; Zbl 1312.11039)] by producing Eichler-Shimura-style isomorphisms for the de Rham cohomology attached to modular forms in any level and field of definition. The article is a geometric framework for the study of the Fourier coefficients of harmonic weak Maass forms and it is a part of author's graduate studies. The article is clearly written and the results are interesting.
