The content of this work can be divided into two parts. In the first part, in the analysis, the authors derive first-order necessary optimality conditions for two different optimal control problems for evolution Maxwell equations, in particular for a Maxwell integro-differential system. In the first problem, the induction coil is considered as part of the conducting region and the electrical current is taken as control. In the other model, the coil is viewed as part of the nonconducting region and the electrical voltage is the control. The results regarding the existence and uniqueness are rely on similar theorems proved in a previous paper which belongs to the same three authors. The optimality conditions are proved by introducing adjoint states as a basis for computational optimization techniques. In the second part of the paper, the authors apply the optimality conditions to set up numerical methods. The problems of optimal magnetization in 3D spatial domains are solved by gradient type methods. The computed optimal magnetization curves turned out to be very precise and are used in practical applications. Moreover, it is used the model reduction by standard proper orthogonal decomposition that enabled to achieve tremendous savings of computing times. A detailed discussion of model reduction, complemented by a discussion of necessary optimality conditions for a quadratic objective functional is also included. It is noteworthy the numerically deduction of some optimal solutions to the optimal magnetization problem. | |||
