The authors consider a scattering problem of a slit structure. They transform the scattering problem formulated on a two-dimensional unbounded domain into a one-dimensional operator equation on the slit. They use the Fourier transform of the Helmholtz equation with respect to the first spatial variable and a Dirichlet-to-Neumann map. Then, they provide the well-posedness analysis of the operator problem and the convergence of the Galerkin method applied to that. The test and trial functions are the simplest trigonometric functions \(\sin(nx)\), with \(n\) natural. Moreover, some numerical examples are carried out in order to show the efficiency of the method.
