This note is concerned with the construction of complex structures on the product of two circle bundles associated to negative ample line bundles \(L_i\) over flag varieties \(X_i:=G_i/P_i\), \(i=1,2\), where \(G_i\) are complex semisimple Lie groups and \(P_i\subset G_i\) are parabolic subgroups. We write \(S(L_i)\) for the circle bundles (defined using Hermitian metrics) and let \(S(L):=S(L_1)\times S(L_2)\). Using ``admissible'' elements \(\lambda\) in the Lie algebra of \(\widetilde{B}\), where \(\widetilde{B}\) is the appropriate Borel subgroup of \(\widetilde{G}=\widetilde{G}_1\times \widetilde{G}_2\), \(\widetilde{G}_i:=G_i\times{\mathbb C}^*\), one defines structures of complex manifold \( S_\lambda(L)\) on \(S(L)\). The authors obtain vanishing theorems for \(H^q\big(S_\lambda(L);{\mathcal O}\big)\). In the case where the \(P_i\) are maximal parabolics and \(L_i\) is a generator of \(\text{Pic}\big(G_i/P_i\big)\), they show that \(\text{Pic}\big(S_\lambda(L)\big)=\text{Pic}^0\big(S_\lambda(L)\big)\cong{\mathbb C}\) and that the field of meromorphic functions of \(S_\lambda(L)\) is purely transcendental over \({\mathbb C}\) of transcendence degree less than \(\dim S_\lambda(L)\).
