The author investigates three possible descriptions of population models: microscopic level of stochastically interacting individuals in terms of continuous linear semigroups of Markov operators, mesoscopic level in terms of nonlinear semigroups related to bilinear Boltzmann-type integro-differential equations and macroscopic level in terms of dynamical systems related to bilinear Lotka-Volterra-type equations.
