The authors consider triples \((X,\omega,J)\) where \(X\) is a compact manifold, \(\omega\) is a symplectic structure and \(J\) is an almost complex structure on \(X\). For this situation a quantization scheme, called ``almost Kähler quantization'', is developed. The basic idea is to construct the quantum Hilbert space as the span of the eigenfunctions of a rescaled Laplacian operator. The semiclassical properties of this quantization scheme is discussed and comparison is made to the \(\text{Spin}^c\) quantization scheme.
