Long-time behavior of 3-dimensional Ricci flow. C: 3-manifold topology and combinatorics of simplicial complexes in 3-manifolds (Q680298): Difference between revisions

The Part C of this series of papers is topological in nature and Ricci flows will not be used. The author establishes several topological results important for the study of long-time behaviour of Ricci flow with surgery. In the first part, Preliminaries on 3-dimensional topology, the author recalls some elementary properties in the topology of 3-manifolds, also used in the last part [Zbl 1388.53061]. The main part of this paper is devoted to the construction and analysis of certain simplicial complexes in a given 3-manifold. The construction will be used in Part D [Zbl 1388.53061] in combination with the area evolution result of Part B [Zbl 1388.53059]. In this paper, the author also analyses the intersections of images of the simplicial complex with embedded, incompressible solid tor in the 3-manifold (a combinatorial-topological result).
