Let \(X\) be a Banach space, let \(Y \subset X\) be a closed subspace and let \(B_Y\) denote the closed unit ball. \(Y\) is said to be densely ball remotal if the set of points in \(X\) for which there is a farthest point in \(B_Y\) is dense in \(X\). The study of such spaces and their properties was initiated by the reviewer in a joint work with \textit{P.\,Bandyopadhyay} and \textit{B.-L.\thinspace Lin} [Colloq.\ Math.\ 114, No.\,1, 119--133 (2009; Zbl 1171.46009)]. \(Y\) is said to be an \(M\)-ideal if there is a linear projection \(P: X^\ast \rightarrow X^\ast\) such that \(\ker(P) = Y^{\perp}\) and \(\|x^\ast\| = \|P(x^\ast)\|+\|x^\ast - P(x^\ast)\|\). In this paper, the authors study subspaces of continuous function spaces in which \(M\)-ideals are densely ball remotal subspaces. These questions for the space of continuous functions were studied by them in [Indag.\ Math., New Ser.\ 20, No.\,3, 381--395 (2009; Zbl 1193.46009)]. For a compact Choquet simplex \(K\), let \(\partial_e K\) denote the extreme boundary. If \(\overline{\partial_e K}\setminus K\) is at most finite, then they show that any \(M\)-ideal in the space of affine continuous functions on \(K\) is a densely ball remotal subspace.
