In order to follow the contents of this paper one has to know in detail the concepts and results published by \textit{S. Bulman-Fleming}, \textit{D. Gutermuth}, \textit{A. Gilmour} and \textit{M. Kilp} [Commun. Algebra 34, No. 4, 1291--1317 (2006; Zbl 1095.20046)]. In the paper under review, several new concepts for partially ordered (p.o.) monoids are introduced in order to give characterizations of p.o. monoids by their Rees factor \(S\)-posets with respect to the following properties: (p.o.) torsionfree, (principally) weakly p.o. flat, condition (P), (strongly) flat, projective, free, and combinations thereof. For example, for a p.o. monoid \(S\) all right Rees factor \(S\)-posets are principally weakly (p.o.) flat iff for any \(a\in S\) there exist \(x,y\in S\) such that \(axa\leq a\leq aya\) (and \(S\) is weakly right reversible: for all \(a,b\in S\) there exist \(u,v\in S\) such that \(ua\leq vb\)).
