The authors present a new efficient Poisson solver, in three dimensions, on unstructured tetrahedral grids. One of main features of this method is that produces approximations for the exact solution and new variables called gradients. The method is based on a new formulation for the equation to be solved. This formulation is an equivalent form of a hyperbolic system of four equations for the problem by introducing solution gradients as additional variables. The time in the system is a pseudo time variable. The resulting system is approximated using the node-centered edge-based discretization. The discrete system is solved efficiently by a Jacobian-Free Newton-Krylov solver with an implicit defect-correction solver used as a variable-preconditioner. Several numerical tests have been presented to confirm the Robustness of the method. It is proved numerically that the method produce second-order accuracy for both the solution and the gradients on irregular tetrahedral grids. However, there is no theoretical proof for this second order accuracy result.
