Let \(B\) be an indefinite quaternion algebra over \(\mathbb Q\) of reduced discriminant \(D\), and let \(\mathcal O\) be a maximal order of \(B\). Then the group \(\mathcal O^+\) of elements of \(\mathcal O^*\) of reduced norm 1 is an arithmetic subgroup of \(\text{SL}(2, \mathbb R)\), and the associated quotient \(\mathcal O^+ \backslash \mathcal H\) of the upper half plane \(\mathcal H\) is the set of complex points of the associated Shimura curve \(X\) over \(\mathbb Q\). It was \textit{B.~Jordan} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 371, 92--114 (1986; Zbl 0587.14018)] who obtained counterexamples to the Hasse principle by proving that certain Shimura curves have no points defined over some imaginary quadratic fields. In this paper the author proves that the counterexamples found by Jordan are accounted for by the Manin obstruction.
