Geometric autocorrelation functions for polycrystalline materials are critically discussed in its relation to images from orientation microscopy. It is shown that typically higher order correlation functions must be used to understand related effects: A simple first order correlation function depending on the mean linear intercept is not able to describe recent experiments on aluminum.
