The author considers a generalization of the standard functional for the Einstein-Dirac equation in which the Dirac operator is replaced by its square and a real parameter is introduced. It is shown that for a particular value of the parameter a new type of Einstein-Dirac coupling occurs, and a special method for constructing global smooth solutions of the new Einstein-Dirac equations is investigated. The resulting new systems are called the classical Einstein-Dirac equations of types I and II. Contents include: Introduction; Derivation of the classical Einstein-Dirac equations; Coupling of the square of the Dirac operator to the Einstein equations; Constructing solutions of the classical Einstein-Dirac equations of type II; An existence theorem for weak Killing spinors and that of the weak parallel spinors; References.
