\textit{S. K. Jain, S. H. Mohamed} and \textit{S. Singh} have studied, [in Pac. J. Math. 31, 73-79 (1969; Zbl 0213.04401)], rings in which every right ideal is quasi-injective (called right q-rings). Noting that every quasi-injective module is automorphsim-invaraint, the authors, in this paper, study rings in which every right ideal is automorphism-invariant and call such rings right a-rings. The authors have tried to generalize the results for q-rings obtained by Jain et al. to a-rings. Their main results are as follows. (i) Every right a-ring is a direct product of a square-full, semisimple Artinian ring and a right square-free ring. (ii) For any \(n>1\), the matrix ring \(M_n(R)\) over a ring \(R\) is a right a-ring if and only if \(R\) is semisimple Artinian. (iii) A right a-ring \(R\) is von Neumann regular if and only if \(R\) is semiprime. (iv) Every right a-ring \(R\) is stably-finite, that is, every matrix ring \(M_n(R)\) over \(R\) is directly-finite. From this last result the authors deduce the corollary that every regular, right a-ring is unit-regular ``probably'' assuming that every regular, stably-finite ring is unit-regular which unfortunately is not true as the Example 5.10 in \textit{K. R. Goodearl}'s book ``Von Neumann regular rings'' [London: Pitman Publishing (1979; Zbl 0411.16007)] shows. Further the authors prove that an indecomposable, non-local ring \(R\) is a right q-ring if and only if \(R\) is a right CS, right a-ring. The authors conclude the paper by proving that any indecomposable, right Artinian, right nonsingular, right weakly CS, right a-ring \(R\) is isomorphic to an upper triangular matrix ring of certain block matrices.
