A regularity \(R\) in a unital Banach algebra \(A\) is a subset such that \(ab\in R\) if and only if \(a,b\in R\). A subspectrum \(\tau\) associates to every \(a\in A^k\) a nonempty compact subset \(\tau(a)\subset C^k\) which is a subset of the usual spectrum when \(k= 1\) and possesses the polynomial spectral mapping property \(\tau(p(a))= p(\tau(a))\) for noncommutative polynomials \(p\). The author establishes a correspondence between regularities and subspectra similar to the case of commutative Banach algebras. Prominent in the theory is the \(\tau\)-radical, a two-sided ideal containing the Jacobson radical. Under the assumption that its associated Lie algebra is nilpotent, \(A\) admits subspectra including the Słodkowski, Taylor and Harte type joint spectra.
