The article has two objectives. First, it generalizes the theory of Abhyankar-Moh to quasi-ordinary polynomials. Then, based on the theory of approximate roots and generalized Newton polygons, the author proves the embedding conjecture for quasi-ordinary polynomials. This conjecture, formulated by Abhyankar and Sathaye, predicts that if a hypersurface of the affine space is isomorphic to a coordinate hypersurface, then it is a coordinate hypersurface after a coordinate transformation. The conjecture is still open when the dimension of the affine space is strict larger than 2. The present article solves the problem under the additional assumption that the hypersurface is provided by a quasi-ordinary polynomial.
