This paper studies the stability property of a refinable function vector in the space of \(L^2\) using the transfer operator (also called the transition operator in the literature of wavelets). Generalizing a result of Gundy from scalar refinable functions to refinable function vectors, under conditions such as the existence of a refinable function vector \(\Phi\) and its membership in the space \(D_\infty(\hat \Phi)\) defined in the paper, the author obtains a characterization of the symbol associated with a stable refinable function vector. As pointed out by the author, the fundamental ideas for the vector case in this paper are the same as the ones for the scalar case, but some complications arise due to the noncommutativity of matrix products.
