Suslin related the Milnor \(K\)-theory \(K^M\) of a field \(F\) to the homology stability for the groups \(\mathrm{SL}_n(F)\). For any infinite field \(F\), the authors prove that map \(\mathrm{H}_3(\mathrm{SL}_n(F),\mathbb Z)\to\mathrm{H}_3(\mathrm{SL}_{n+1}(F),\mathbb Z)\) is an isomorphism for every \(n\geq 3\). When \(n=2\) the cokernel of this map is naturally isomorphic to \(2\cdot K_3^{M}(F)\). It follows that the natural homomorphism \(\mathrm{H}_3(\mathrm{SL}_2(F),\mathbb Z)\to K_3(F)^{\text{ind}}\) (to the indecomposable part of \(K_3(F)\)) is surjective.
