The author studies the numerical approximation of the heat equation with a singular absorption. It is proved that the numerical quenching rate coincides with the continuous one. Further, it is shown that the numerical quenching set is near the continuous one. In fact, under some restrictions on the initial data, the numerical quenching coincides with the continuous one. Some numerical examples are carried out to illustrate the analysis.
