A compact surface with no conjugate points is constructed in which the limit solutions of the Riccati equation do not depend continuously on the geodesic along which they are defined. The Riccati equation along the geodesic c(t) is \(u'+u^ 2+K(c(t))=0\), where K is the curvature. The limit solutions are the smallest and largest solutions that are defined for all t.
