    In the present paper the author obtains a complete characterization of pairs of invariant subspaces M and N of \(H^ 2(T^ n)\) such that \(M=\phi N\) for an inner function \(\phi\). Here \(T^ n\) is the Cartesian product of n unit circles and \(H^ 2(T^ n)=\cap^{n}_{k=1}{\mathcal H}_ k\), where \({\mathcal H}_ k\) is the closure in \(L^ 2(T^ n)\) of the algebra generated by \(\{1,z_ i,\bar z_ i:\) \(i=1,...,n\}\setminus \{\bar z_ k\}\).
