The authors develop a simulation method for a quasineutral plasma with electrons and ions taken as particles-in-cell. The electrostatic field is determined from the neutrality condition which enables a better self-consistent calculation of the potential. The method correctly represents features like the ion and electron Landau damping and is applied to several test problems such as free plasma expansion, and linear and nonlinear ion sound.
