The authors propose ``a reflectionless sponge layer for truncating computational domains in which the time-dependent Maxwell equations are discretized with high-order staggered nondissipative finite difference schemes''. The well-posedness of the corresponding Cauchy problem as well as numerical experiments are discussed.
