The author studies \(J\)-invariant submanifolds of a generic almost complex manifold \((M, J)\). He proves that only pseudoholomorphic curves can appear as \(J\)-invariant submanifolds of a generic \((M, J)\). More precisely, the author proves that if \({\mathcal J}\) denotes the space of almost complex structures on \(M\) then there exists an open and dense, in some \(C^r\)-topology, subset \({\mathcal J}'\subset{\mathcal J}\) such that an almost complex manifold \((M, J)\) with \(J\subset{\mathcal J}'\) does not have any local (even formal) pseudoholomorphic submanifolds of (real) dimension \(2n> 2\). Similarly, there exists an open and dense, in some \(C^r\)-topology, subset \({\mathcal J}'\subset{\mathcal J}\) such that an almost complex manifold \((M, J)\) does not admit any local pseudoholomorphic automorphisms different from \(\text{id}_M\). The author shows also that a generic almost complex manifold \(M\) does not admit any pseudoholomorphic submersions onto an almost complex manifold of dimension different from \(\dim M\).
