Durch Betrachtung des elliptischen Integrals \[ u=\int (1-z^2)^{-\frac 12}(1-k^2z^2)^{-\frac 12}dz \;(k \;\text{reell}) \] längs derjenigen Kurven vierter Ordnung, längs deren es reell oder rein imaginär ist, wird gezeigt, daß\ es nur bei zusammenfallenden Grenzen Null werden kann, d. h. daß\ die Umkehrfunktion \(z=\text{sn}u\) bei reellem Modul eindeutig ist. Der Beweis wird vorher an dem Integral \[ u=\int (1-z^2)^{-\frac 12}dz \] (Integration längs konfokaler Ellipsen und Hyperbeln) erläutert.
