Let \(PG(r,q)\) be the projective space of dimension \(r\) over the Galois field \(GF(q)\). A \(k\)-cap \(K\) in \(PG(r,q)\) is a set of \(k\) points in \(PG(r,q)\) such that no three of them are collinear. Starting from a version of Segre's construction, the authors construct caps in \(PG(4,q)\), \(q\) odd, whose cardinality is \(O(5q^2/2)\). Techniques involved are both geometric and algebraic.
