Let \(X,Y\) be compact Hausdorff spaces and let \(A,B\) be Banach function algebras of continuous functions on \(X,Y\), respectively. In this article, the author gives isometric conditions on surjective maps so that they can be described in terms of the Shilov boundary (\(\partial A\)). Let \(S: A^{-1} \rightarrow B^{-1}\) be a surjection such that \(\|fg^{-1}\| = \|SfSg^{-1}\|\) for all \(f,g \in A^{-1}\). Then there is a homeomorphism \(\tau: \partial A \rightarrow \partial B\) such that \(|Sf(\tau(x))|=|f(x)|\) for \(x \in \partial A\), \(f \in A^{-1}\). Based on work of \textit{O. Hatori} et al. [``Multiplicatively spectrum-preserving and norm-preserving maps between invertible groups of commutative Banach algebras'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:0904.1939}; ``Polynomially spectrum-preserving maps between commutative Banach algebras'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:0904.2322}], the author considers surjective maps \(S\) between \(A,B\) that, for some complex number \(\alpha\), preserve the peripheral range, \(\mathrm{ran}_{\pi}(Sf(Sg+\alpha)+1)\cap \mathrm{ran}_{\pi}(f(g+ \alpha)+1) \neq \emptyset\) for all \(f,g \in A\). In this case, analogous to classical Banach-Stone theorems, \(S\) is a weighted composition operator on the Shilov boundary for a homeomorphism \(\tau\) and an invertible \(\phi \in B\) with \(-1 \leq \phi\leq 1\).
