The paper deals with the hierarchical control of the wave equation. The authors consider a problem setting with one leader and two followers. Both the linear and semilinear equations are considered, the latter with a globally Lipschitz nonlinear term. For the linear equation the main result of the paper consists in obtaining the existence of a leader control and an associated Nash equilibrium pair. This is done by first rewriting the Nash equilibrium property as a coupled hyperbolic system and then establishing an observability estimate for the corresponding adjoint. For semilinear equations, a fixed-point formulation is used. For obtaining the main result, the authors use the linear case, which leads again to the existence of leader and follower controls.
