The stability properties of solutions of De Gregorio system \(\omega_t+u\omega_x-u_x\omega=0\), \(u_x=H\omega\) are studied. Here, \(H\) denotes the Hilbert transform on the unit circle. There is shown that near the manifold of equilibria, solutions are global in time and converge to equilibria when \(t\to\pm\infty\), in a way resembling inviscid damping. The De Gregorio system is locally well posed in \(H^s\), \(s>1/2\).
