The authors introduce the mechanics shape function by subdividing the quadrilateral element into triangles to adapt the RTM (recursive transfer method) to meshes including scalene quadrilaterals. The degrees of freedom associated with the subdivision triangles are used to consider various shapes of the scattering object and to improve calculation accuracy. The effect of the mechanics shape function is evaluated using a uniform waveguide with a distorted mesh. The element shape considered in this work is limited to quadrilateral but it can be any convex polygon.
