This paper studies the Weyl curvature tensor of Finsler metrics. The author investigates the restriction on the Weyl tensor for Randers metrics, which represents a necessary condition (Eqn.(1.1)) for a Finsler metric to be a Randers metric. He shows that this condition is also sufficient in the case of an \(n\)-dimensional (\(n>2\)) compact Finsler space of negative Ricci scalar. This generalizes theorems only known for Finsler metrics of scalar curvature. The author proves also that if \((M,F)\) is an \(n\)-dimensional Finsler manifold with vertically constant Weyl curvature whose \(S\)-curvature is almost isotropic, then there is a scalar function \(\sigma(x)\) on \(M\) such that the Ricci scalar is given by \(\text{Ric}=3(n-1)c+\sigma(x)\). Further, \(c\) is constant if and only if \(\text{Ric}= \text{Ric}(x)\) is a scalar function on \(M\). This result partially determines the Ricci scalar for Finsler metrics having almost isotropic \(S\)-curvature, which generalizes theorems only known for Finsler metrics of scalar curvature and constant (or isotropic) \(S\)-curvature.
