The authors establish a (global) existence result for the initial value problem for a discontinuous scalar differential equation \(x' = f(t,x)\), \(x(0) = 0\), \((t,x) \in [0,1] \times \mathbb{R}\). A theorem on continuous dependence of solutions on the right hand-side is also given. Note that the authors' approach allows to prove two main results of \textit{D. Biles} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 339, 507-522 (1993; Zbl 0787.34009)].
