This paper is concerned with backward differences formulae (BDF) for differential equations of the form \(u'(t)=Au(t)+f(t)\), \(u(t_0)=u_0\), where \(A\) is a sectorial operator densely defined in a Hilbert space. The authors provide explicit quantitative stability bounds for the BDF schemes. Further, an asymptotic expansion is derived including precise damping estimates for the initial irregular behavior of the remainder term.
