In this paper the authors present the construction of an admissible quantum affine algebra \(\mathcal U_q (\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2)\) of affine type \(A_1^{(1)}\), where \(q\) is an indeterminate, and show that the Hopf algebra \(\mathcal U_q (\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2)\) is not isomorphic neither to the standard quantum affine algebra \(U_q (\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_2)\) nor to the one constructed by \textit{N. H. Hu} and \textit{R. S. Zhuang} in [``A novel quantum affine algebra of type \(A_1^{(1)}\) and its PBW basis'', Contemp. Math. (to appear)]. Some invariants of this new Hopf algebra are determined: the automorphism group, which is shown to be isomorphic to the quantum Weyl group, the quantum root vectors and a Poincaré-Birkhoff-Witt basis.
