\textit{Yu. L. Ershov} [Theor. Comput. Sci. 224, No. 1--2, 59--72 (1999; Zbl 0976.54015)], used tools from domain theory, in particular the equivalent classes of directed subsets, in order to obtain a method for achieving the \(d\)-completions of \(T_0\)-spaces.In this article, the authors introduce an aternative and more analytical way to achieve the same target, by using equivalent classes of subsets which carry the so-called compactly filtered property. The authors use their method to give a negative answer to an open question posed by \textit{D. Zhao} and \textit{T. Fan} [Theor. Comput. Sci. 411, No. 22--24, 2167--2173 (2010; Zbl 1192.06007)], and they introduce a new open problem on arbitrary products of \(T_0\)-spaces.
