The authors introduce a new approximation class of functions consisting of self-referential functions, referred to as fractal rational trigonometric functions. They establish Weierstrass-type approximation theorems for this class and prove the existence of a best fractal rational trigonometric approximant to real-valued continuous functions defined on compact intervals. Furthermore, an upper bound for the least error of approximating a prescribed continuous function by a fractal rational trigonometric function is derived. Finally, some mathematical errors in connection with set-valued fractal operators that appeared recently in the literature are pointed out and corrected.
